Stephanie Yassine, Executive Director
As a Latina –American, began her journey with Escuela Avancemos in 2012 when the doors opened with the vision of providing transformative education that inspires life-long learners and empowers families in the communities to have a voice in their children’s education. Since 2012, she has completed her Master in Social Work from the University of Michigan with a focus on school, empowerment and community. Her work includes working with a youth collective, the University of Michigan and the Michigan’s Civil Rights Commission to develop and pass a Resolution that focuses on diversity and youth empowerment in the classrooms. Her passion lies in supporting young people as they advocate for their right to a fair and just education in schools across Metro Detroit. In her current role as the Academy’s Executive Director, Stephanie is responsible for organizational oversight, school operations, and working closely with school leaders to cultivate a community that honors academic excellence, cultural responsiveness, family empowerment through a whole-child approach.
